October 19, 1781, the Battle of Yorktown Ends in Victory!
October 19, 2010
On this day, two hundred and twenty-nine years ago, the last battle of the War for Independence came to an end in victory at Yorktown, Virginia.
After the revolutionary way and the Civil War, Yorktown’s strategic location caused it to suffer destruction one too many times and this little hamlet sitting above the mouth of the York River and Chesapeake Bay never grew to become a center of commerce. But little Yorktown stands large in the history of the six long years that American Patriots fought for independence from Britain.
Today thousands of Americans converged on little Yorktown to pay homage. Click HERE to hear the pride of Yorktown’s Fife and Drums (or watch below).
