Bad times for Conservatives
The resignation of Roger Ailes from Fox News in July, reported here on July 20, Bye-Bye, Roger, and publication of nude photos of Melania Trump by The New York Post indicate that a generational change in power at News Corp is well underway.
News Corp owns the New York Post, Wall Street Journal and Fox News. All three are conservative media properties. Now it appears that they are slowly moving to the center.
At the Wall Street Journal where conservatives could enjoy the WSJ’s opinion pages, the voices of John Fund and Steve Moore are gone.
With Roger Ailes gone from FoxNews we are already seeing some changes. More will surely come.
But the decision to use risqué photos of a young, 25 year old, Melania, wife of the GOP nominee for President, is an important signal.
These changes come at a difficult time because the GOP is in a process of realignment and conservatives who will compete for what remains of the GOP after the November election will need mainline media support. They won’t find it at FoxNews.
That is not good, at least in the short term, but over the next two years there is an opportunity to grow existing conservative media such as NewsMax, Human Events, the American Conservative and policy organizations like the Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute.
Look on the Brightside, conservatives!
