MSNBC Voices for the Deep State

August 3, 2017

For those not born of World War II generation parents, Tokyo Rose (real name Iva Toguri) was an American born citizen of Japanese descent who broadcast propaganda to American troops for the Japanese. She was a graduate of UCLA.

There are three equivalent Tokyo Rose’s who are voices for the “deep state” at MSNBC.

Stephanie Ruhle is a graduate of Lehigh University

Rachel Maddow is a graduate of Stanford University with a degree in public policy.

Mika Brzezinski attended Georgetown University and graduated from Williams College.

I cite the academic backgrounds of each of these professional journalists  because a college education is one area of our lives where we encounter the greater world and are guided by intellectuals who are to the Left of ordinary citizens.

Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is a haven for Left-leaning academics and Stanford, Georgetown and Williams are no better. What would these journalists be like if they attended Hillsdale College, or studied the “Great Books” at St. John’s University in Annapolis?

Or, are Leftist colleges a route for employment in mainstream media venues? Ann Coulter (Cornell & University of Michigan), Laura Ingraham (Dartmouth), Molly Hemingway (CU-Boulder) also attended college, but left without the Left-wing bias of their professors.

At one time, Cornell featured Allan Bloom, Harry Jaffa and Walter Berns in the Department of Government, a triumvirate of intellectual power unpatrolled in American higher education.

Dartmouth was host to the Dartmouth Review that took bright conservative young people and gave them a venue by which to defend themselves from the Dartmouth Left-wing Administration and Faculty.

At CU-Boulder the pickings are  slimmer, but a few good professors are teaching there including Christopher Kopff.

If you want to keep your distance from Left-wing ideology that reigns at American University you can, usually by studying Classics, History, Art–or any of the non-ideological Humanities disciplines. Literature has gone to hell, Political Science is mostly a waste, and Sociology and Anthropology are proving grounds for nutcase ideas.

What separates Coulter, Ingraham and Hemingway from the three Tokyo Roses at MSNBC from is will.  They willed not to become ideologues.
