Trump’s Musical Chairs
Today’s announcement of the firing of U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, is reminiscent of movement conservatives in the Reagan Administration who paid a high price as great as those now being fired or departing from the Trump Administration.
The firing of Rex Tillerson is another sign of President Donald Trump’s erratic administration of the U.S. government. This reminded me of a series of firings, thirty-seven years ago, of young conservatives in the Reagan Administration by the husband of the wife of Nancy Reagan’s best friend.
Charles Z. Wick, a businessman, former band leader and PR executive, served at the head of the agency of government responsible for the public diplomacy of the United States. Movement conservatives were attracted to service at USICA, formerly known as USIA, but ran into the mercurial, unstable, person of the husband of Nancy Reagan’s best friend. That was “Charlie” Wick’s only qualification and a sign of instability to come in the Reagan Administration.
