We are the “Stupid Party”

April 20, 2019

Who it was that first referred to the GOP as “the stupid Party” eludes me. Though after reading that the Library of Congress traces the first use of the term “Founding Fathers” to President Warren Harding, I’m open to being surprised.

Nevertheless, something is terribly wrong with the Republican Party’s current representation in the Congress and the White House.

President Donald Trump’s dyslexia severely limited  his reading ability and what he believes politically never improved on what he learned at New York Military Academy. His respect for Generals and Admirals, a high school smattering of Nietzsche and Enoch Powell’s anti-immigration attitudes are something he has carried with him since first donning a cadet’s uniform at a military academy that attracted bullies from the New York borough of Queens.

Donald Trump hasn’t read a book in more than fifty years, and that explains why he has not been infected by socialist utopian notions that have infected our intellectual classes since the Progressive Movement succeeded in ratifying the 17th Amendment to the Constitution in 1913.

That Amendment took away the power of the legislatures of the States to elect members of the United States Senate and gave that power to the people in direct elections:

“The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote.”

Ever after, every Senator was elected in a process giving Progressive ideologies a shot at electing Progressive Senators. That closed the door to  election of exceptional men and gave us “the stupid Party.”
