The 146th Kentucky Derby
The Kentucky Derby will be raced tomorrow, September 5, and feature a 15-horse field.
The “Kentucky Derby” is always raced on the first Saturday in May, but like all aspects of American life that schedule was moved due to the onset of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Historically The derby is the first “leg” of the Triple Crown which is followed by the Preakness on October 3. But the traditional first leg this year was held on June 20 at Belmont Park.
The Belmont Stakes was won by Tiz Law.
As fate would have it, Tiz Law has been assigned Post Position 17 in a field of 15 horses.
This assures that Tiz Law will not win the Kentucky Derby.
Who will win?
I will wager that South Bend (50-1) at Post 8 has a shot because it is trained by Bill Mott.
I also like Mr. Big News at Post 9 because of its breeding (Giants Causeway/Galileo) and I like another long shot, Necker Island, at 50/1 (Post 11) also because of its breeding (Hard Spun/Mr. Greeley.
I will risk $12 in a Place/Show wager and not go for a Win on any of these three 50-1 shots.
Wish me luck!
