Bye-bye Mayor Bill

September 15, 2020

I was last in New York City after Bill di Blasio was elected Mayor in 2013 and had to watch where I walked due to City streets in need of repair and was annoyed by the prevalence of homeless, some demanding money.

Last week the Warwick Hotel sent a message that they were open for business. I replied suggesting that they should sell their Manhattan hotel and that I would never again visit NYC until the voters of New York kick Bill di Blasio and Andrew Cuomo out of office.

I decided also that I will never visit a New York racetrack nor wager on a thoroughbred race in New York.

From the time I was 13 and attended my first thoroughbred horse race at Wheeling Downs in West Virginia, I have been interested in thoroughbred horse racing.

During my business career, and on holiday with family, I have wagered at tracks in Warsaw, Poland, Florida, California, Minnesota, Maryland, Virginia and New York.

I have a collection of calendars given bettors at Santa Anita in December.

Del Mar, Gulfstream, Belmont, Saratoga, Laurel and Pimlico are places I’ve visited, but now that racing in Australia (Randwick) and Europe (Ascot and Longchamp) can be accessed online, I can enjoy first class races via the Internet and avoid thoroughbred racing in New York. The New York Racing Commission needs to reform thoroughbred racing and wagering in New York.
