Dickinson is Back!
Thoroughbred racing features great horses and colorful personalities. Yorkshire-born thoroughbred trainer, Michael Dickinson, is one of them. When racing horses in England, Dickinson trained a record 12 winners on Boxing Day in 1982
Rigorously ethical, Dickinson once hired private detectives to monitor the barns of a successful New York trainer he suspected of drugging.
In 2007 he left the training of horses to build and manage a training facility using synthetic turf. Dickinson believes that racing on dirt is out of step with less dangerous racing on synthetic turf.
I lost track of Dickinson, but noticed that in 2019 he was again racing thoroughbreds—and losing races. But this year, Dickinson won a Graded Stakes race for $175,000 at Woodbine Racecourse in Canada. Dickinson’s entry, Theodora B, paid $24.10 for a $2.00 Win wager!
Nobody expected a Dickinson trained entry would win.
Bill Mott and Clemente Christophe are the top trainers of horses bred to run the distance (1 mile to 1 ½ mile) on Turf or dirt. Now add Dickinson to that list of the Top Three.
